Louise Bourgeois was born in 1911 in Paris. She started of as a painter and engraver but by the 1940's had started to focus on sculpture. This is what she is most recognised for and has been heralded as one of the leaders in its field in the twentieth-century. Although born in France she Emigrated to the US in 1938. There her work was influenced by Eueropean Surrelist Artists who had moved there after the war.
